The FastLife Physical Attraction Survey

NEW YORK - (April 17, 2007) – The perfect man has an athletic build, brown hair, blue eyes, a washboard stomach and an average spattering of body hair. The ultimate woman is a brunette with blue eyes, a great butt and an athletic body. This is the verdict of the FastLife Physical Attraction Poll. FastLife, North America’s most stylish speed dating service, conducted a survey of more than 1000 singles to find out America’s biggest physical turn-ons and turn-offs.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR

Forty-two percent of women and 58 percent of men indicated that physical attributes are a “very important” characteristic in a potential partner, showing that first impressions are vital in the dating world. The face was deemed the most important feature in a partner, with more than 85 percent of women and 68 percent of men rating it over all other body parts.

Facial features
• Men and women agreed that the eyes were the most important facial feature in a potential partner, followed by the smile. Men indicated a marginal preference for brunettes over blondes, with 25 percent choosing brown as their preferred hair color, compared to 22.5 percent for blonde.

• The poll revealed that women preferred their men tall, dark and handsome with brown (40%) and black (11%) being the preferred hair colors by women who expressed a preference in the hair color department. Blue was the most popular eye color for both men and women; however, men preferred women with green eyes over those with brown eyes, whereas women liked brown eyes slightly more than green eyes.

Non-facial features
• A man’s stomach was the most attractive non-facial feature for women, scoring an average of 3.17 on a five-point importance scale. Other anatomical “hot spots” for women include the chest (3.11), and biceps (2.94). A woman’s derrière was the biggest turn on for men with a score of 3.58, followed equally by legs and stomach.

Body Size
• Fifty-six percent of men indicated that body size was the biggest turn-off in a woman, followed by bad teeth, bad skin, hairstyle, height and nose. Bad teeth were the deal breaker for women with 45 percent indicating that bad teeth were more repulsive than body size, lack of height, hairstyle, skin and nose.

• Both sexes were similarly attracted to fit bodies with 36 percent of men and 52 percent of women choosing athletic as their preferred body type. However, men were partial to slim women (33%) over women with an average build (27%). On the contrary, women appear to like men with a little more meat as 35 percent prefer an average build and 8 percent like slightly more cuddly men, compared to 5 percent who like slim men. Less than 1 percent from either sex opted for king- or queen-sized partners, suggesting that in the dating world, bigger is not necessarily better.

SEX VS DATING

The good news is that singles don’t strictly need to have it all. Ninety-two percent of men and 82 percent of women would have a sexual relationship with someone with a fantastic body but average face. Meanwhile, 91 percent of women and 89 percent of men would sleep with someone with an average body but a fantastic face.

Not surprisingly, men had higher standards for women they would date than women they would sleep with. While 92 percent of men would have a sexual relationship with someone with a fantastic body but an average face, only 82 percent would date them. Women, on the other hand, were fussier with their one-night stands than their dates. 91% are open to a purely sexual relationship with a handsome man with a mediocre physique but 98% of women are willing to date the same type of man.
